Side Winder Overview

These small but extremely tough little vessels are the work horses of the logging industry.

They are built in sizes ranging from 16 to 18 feet.

The most popular by a long shot is the 18-foot version with a beam of 8 feet and a draught of 6 foot 4 inches. They are powered by a 175 Hp diesel engine turning at 1800 -2000 RPM driving 360 deg steerable HD-3 Olympic Drive.

These vessels are primarily used to sort and push logs within the booming grounds or at the mill site to push logs onto Peko lifts. They are single operator boats with open cabs. Most of these boats operate in very close proximity to the mills or log dumps.

These boats are very powerful and built to take a beating they are often referred to as bulldozers in the water. They are virtually unsinkable, and they will not roll over as the center of gravity is well below the water line. These boats can be customized during outfitting to suit the needs of most clients.

  • Powered by a Diesel engine producing 175 - 190 HP at 1800 RPM driving a 360-degree steerable Olympic drive.
  • The overall weight of these boats vary depending on options but most weigh in at around 6.5 Ton.
Hull
  • 3/8” mild steel bottom & side plating.
  • Heavy duty log teeth made from 1” steel plate mounted on the bow stem.
  • Five (5) rows of angle iron rub strakes.
  • 2 lifting lugs (one port, one starboard).
  • Heavy duty propeller cage with access gate.
  • Engine cooling in skeg.
  • 4” tow posts mounted fore and aft.
  • 2 fuel tanks, 100 imperial gallon total capacity (aluminum fabricated).
  • Aluminum engine hatch cover, c/w 2 gas spring lifters and a short safety support bar.
Cab/ Wheelhouse
  • All aluminum construction.
  • Open cab design.
  • Safety glass in front window. Guard screen on all windows.
  • Supplied with an operator’s seat.
Drive
  • Olympic HD III heavy duty steerable drive with a 2:1 reduction ratio.
  • 27" diameter four blade high torque propeller.
Exhaust
  • 4" heavy duty engine exhaust silencer.
Engine
  • Many engine options are available Detroit Diesel, John Deere, Cummins engine rated 175-190 hp @ 1800 RPM, with a Twin Disc SP 114P101 PTO
Paint
  • Material for hull, skeg, etc., to be wheelabrated and primed with a zinc rich primer.
  • Exterior of hull, including skeg and propeller cage, to be painted with two coats black.
  • Engine room to be painted with two coats of epoxy, offwhite.
  • Aluminum engine hatch cover and aluminum operators cab to be painted with etching primer and polyurethane, to corporate colors.
